Red Curb and Crossroads Announce Partnership to Help Grow the Indy Comedy Scene Post Pandemic

Red Curb Comedy, a home for live comedy shows and podcasts in Avon, and Crossroads Comedy Theater, a new to Indy theater company offering arts education courses, have joined forces to help grow the comedy scene in the greater Indianapolis area post pandemic.

Through this partnership, Crossroads gains a beautiful, established, and welcoming theater for future performances and a bullhorn for course offerings and Red Curb gains a proven, structured, arts education program and a talent pipeline to supplement and complement their on stage efforts.

At just over five years old, Red Curb Comedy, founded by Will Pfaffenberger, not just survived the pandemic, but came out stronger on the other side. Their weekly shows in Avon have delighted thousands of people with improv, sketch comedy, stand-up, podcasts, and more. Red Curb has also been producing guest productions at other locations to bring the comedy to more people that may not be able or willing to make the trip to Avon. Though Red Curb has offered its own classes in the past, Crossroads is a welcome partner in these efforts.  Red Curb owner, Will Pfaffenberger, says, “Mike Marbach’s proven track record of establishing high quality comedy training programs and developing future performers will be a much-needed and welcomed resource for Red Curb and Indianapolis.  It’s exciting to anticipate the wonderful opportunities that will come by partnering with Crossroads Comedy!”

Crossroads Comedy Theater has been making a big name for itself. Having trained hundreds of people in the art of improv, comedy writing, and stand-up in Philadelphia, its founder, Mike Marbach, now lives in Indianapolis and is looking to bring his experience to the Hoosier state. Crossroads is offering courses in person and online courses covering improv and comedy writing to build up a base of performers before they begin live shows in the future. “Though we have a great reputation in the Philly theater scene,” Marbach says, “we are brand new to Indy. It will take some time for people to discover what we have to offer. Our partnership with Red Curb pairs us with an already respected and trusted organization in the community.”

“The Red Curb and Crossroads Comedy collaboration for performer development and comedy training will undoubtedly become a magnet for Indy’s future improvisers, comedy performers, stand-ups, and writers!”

Compared to other cities, Indianapolis comedy is still rather small and the pandemic did not help matters. Many people moved away or simply stopped performing or studying. With the pandemic now behind us, both companies feel that Indiana is ready to regrow. It is the hope that this partnership, along with the efforts of other area organizations, will not just help repopulate the Indy comedy scene, but make it stronger and more inclusive.
